Every spring, the chapel’s congregation meets in a forest grove, and wait for the ritual to begin. To heed the call of the True One to “be fruitful and multiply” and combat declining birth rates, women have gladly participated in the Regeneration for many, many years. Some girls leave, trekking through the woods under the cover of night, looking for a new way to live. But they are never seen again. But most, including Leanne’s older sister Mina, want to accept the gift the True One has given them.
After two months of quiet, Leanne and Mina reunite at the Regeneration, a day where everything will change.

Sydney Bollinger
Sydney Bollinger (she/her) is a writer and editor. In 2020, she graduated with an MS in Environmental Studies with a focus on Environmental Writing from the University of Montana. Her creative work has been published in Northwest Review, The Petigru Review, Grimsy Literary Magazine, Hash Journal, Dunes Review, Hear Us Scream, This Present Former Glory, and other places. Her first zine, Death Wish, was published in 2023. Sydney regularly writes for the Arts & Entertainment beat in Charleston City Paper, and is a founding editor of Surge: The Lowcountry Climate Magazine and The Changing Times. She lives in Charleston, SC, with her partner and their two cats.
The second volume of Death Wish is a zine about Sylvia Plath, mushrooms, suicidal ideation, and making sense of clinical depression. Walk with me through some of my darkest days as I relapse in major depressive disorder and suicidal ideation. Through poetry, personal essays, and fiction, I share where my mind went as I tried to make sense of wanting to never wake up.

A few weeks ago, I found a diamond engagement ring sparkling under the morning sun. Yesterday, my neighbor Jenna found an old cassette tape.

Running on Sentences
Running on Sentences started in May 2024 after Sydney signed up for her first marathon in Savannah, GA. Throughout the training process, she wrote about her experiences in running and in life. Since completing the marathon in November 2024, she has continued writing about running, personal achievement, writing, and creativity.
